Why Such A Name?

The term "Copperhead" has been loosely used to describe Northerners during the War of Northern Aggression that were Confederate sympathizers.

It has been reported that the name came from the practice of cutting the head of Liberty out of a copper penny (when they were still made of copper) and wearing it on the lapel of your coat as a protest against the arbitrary suspension of God-given liberties which was practiced by the Lincoln Administration.

Most Yankees view us Copperheads with the same amount of mutual affection that Southern people feel for those they brand as Scalawags. However, Scalawags in the South co-operated with the Northern government for political and financial advantage for themselves.

With the Copperheads it was different.. The majority of them did what they did out of a sense of idealism. The "Copperhead Movement" was far from perfect, but many of those involved in it suffered at the hands of the Northern government in one way or another for their beliefs and for their support for the South.

The Copperhead Chronicle was begun because, after
much historical research I came to feel that, during the
War of Northern Aggression,
the South was right. Having gone through many "history" books I became convinced that, in our nation's classrooms, real history is seldom taught.
I looked for a way to counteract some of the gross historical accuracies put forth by establishment "historians" such as the myth that the South fought
the war so they could keep their slaves. With over 90% of the Confederate soldiers that went into the war never having owned a slave, that one won't hold water any more--yet it is still given as the reason for what it was all about. If you doubt me go get a copy of that Ken Burns documentary that was on several years ago, and,
if you can manage to sit though it without gagging, you will find that Mr. Burns, after five years of "historical research" concluded that the war was about slavery.

TheCopperhead Chronicle is one small attempt at resurrecting real history and putting it in front of  people to give them something to think about.
