I do not think this date refers to when the ring was made, only to the fact the owner served on the ALabama.
Joining the vessel in S Africa on 15 August 1863,
The ring is made of brass and was won by the vendors father in a card game in Southampton in 1920. When the father died it came into the
possession of the vendor who lived in this area and he sold it to the museum for a nominal price.
